Baby

“A baby will make love stronger, days shorter, nights longer, bankroll smaller, home happier, clothes shabbier,
the past forgotten, and the future worth living for.” -Anonymous

Symptoms etc.

  • Cramping:  More common early, usually 3-7 weeks, though it is not uncommon to have some light cramping later.
  • Spotting:  Though bleeding is not normal, light spotting is common, esp. around the 5-7th week when the the embryo implants to the uterus....and sometimes later as the fetus gets bigger and some blood vessels along the uteran wall break.
  • Bloated and Gaseous:  Gas-x only does so much. I have found that laying on my left side with my upper-body slightly elevated (2 or 3 pillows) has helped.  I have literally felt a gas bubble form in my stomach then pop - not comfortable.
  • Dizziness or feeling light-headed
  • Heightened sense of smell:  So strong you want know what punched you in the nose
  • Acne:  Like puberty on steroids
  • Fatigue:  According to the book, 'building' a baby expends as much energy as a man would body-building.  Tiring to say the least.
  • Indigestion:  All sorts of fun icks.
  • Upset Stomach and Nausea:  For some will include vomiting.
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea:  And just when you thought you couldn't poop...
  • Headaches
  • Backaches
  • Buttaches:  After sitting for a while, your tail bone will begin to hurt
  • Hip and Joint Aches:  As your enter your second trimester, your body begins to prepare for the baby to get bigger, and eventually leave through the birth canal.  This means your hips and pelvic bones will begin to spread.  It is not comfortable to say the least...may lead to partial preggo-waddle.  Not to mention, something about the hormones messes with your joints.
  • Discharge:  Starting near the end of the first trimester and increasing until the end.  It is called 'leukorrhea'.  Its purpose is to maintain a healthy amount of bacteria in the birth canal and vagina.
  • Bad breath:  Similarly to above, your body is producing many bacterias and gases to help regulate your bodily functions.  This stuff winds up escaping through your mouth...not much better after brushing...sorry friends.
  • Lack of sleep:  If you've read all the above, nuff said.
  • Mood changes:  Sometimes, it is like waking up annoyed and just trying not to get into any situations that set you off either into anger or uncontrollable crying.  I am pleasant to be around. ;-)
