Decoding Pregnancy (Terms)

Reading a pregnancy site can get confusing  - so many acronyms and references!  Here are some common ones that may help you in your reading and research:


  • TTC: Trying To Conceive
  • BCP:  Birth Control Pills
  • DH:  Dear Husband 
  • DW:  Dear Wife
  • DC:  Dear Child (You may also see DS: Dear Son, or DD:  Dear Daughter)
  • LO:  Little One
  • MP:  Menstrual Period
  • PG:  Pregnant
  • EDD:  Estimated Due Date
  • MS (M/S):  Morning Sickness
  • PNV:  Prenatal Vitamin
  • US (U/S):  Ultrasound
  • MC (M/C):  Miscarriage
  • BM:  In pregnancy terms BM could mean Breast Milk or Bowel Movement.  For that reason, you may also see EBM; which stands for Expressed Breast Milk
  • BF:  Breast Feed
  • BP:  Breast Pump
  • BFN:  Big Fat Negative
  • BFP:  Big Fat Positive
  • HPT:  Home Pregnancy Test
  • OB:  Obstetrician
  • GYN:  Gynecologist
